About

My passion is giving visual form to ideas – my own, or other people’s.

I have been exhibiting my artwork for more than 40 years in galleries in Sydney and other cities in Australia. I have held ten solo exhibitions, been represented in many group shows, and my work has been selected for public art exhibitions such as Sculpture by the Sea (Bondi), Harbour Sculpture, and Art & About.

I also have extensive experience in scenic art for major events including Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras, and Sydney New Year’s Eve, for the City of Sydney. This work includes design and production of stage, sets and props, as well as workshop set-up and management. I was the Design Director for the 2002 Gay Games Opening Ceremony, held in Sydney.

In addition to major events, I create freelance scenic work for a range of clients including fashion designers such as Collette Dinnigan, camilla and marc, Peter Alexander and also Vogue Australia magazine.

My career highlight was in 2005 when “My Queer House” received the Sculpture by the Sea Art Gallery Society of NSW award. This award was selected by Edmund Capon, then Director of the AGNSW.

I also enjoy collaborating with other artists, as I did on projects in 2012 with Sue Saxon and Anne Zahalka. This included an exhibition with Sue Saxon at the Tarrawarra Museum of Art, of works made from whole eggshells and lights. “Hope”, another eggshell collaboration with Sue, was highly commended in the Blake Prize in 2012. “The Bondi Twitch” with Sue and Anne Zahalka was a fun look at the local bird (and human) life of the Waverly district.

I am currently working on a graphic memoir, in collaboration with writer Hilda Hoy. Told from my point of view and drawn with my colour illustrations, Returning: A Memoir of Loss, Love, and a Search for my Father’s Berlin weaves historical research and sociopolitical analysis with a war-time lesbian love story.  Returning reveals the secrets of my father’s early life in Nazi Berlin, and the childhood and family he never talked about. My genealogical quest evolves into a reckoning with the impact of reparations when facing haunted pasts. When complete, the book will be seven chapters, or around 230 full colour pages.
